812marriage_and_family_counselors_email_listMindful communication in a relationships is a way in which information can be exchanged in an intentional way that is filled with compassion, empathy, and patience. This form of communication allows individuals to exchange information peacefully without blame or judgment. Compassionate communication is a very effective way in which individuals, families, and couples can cultivate relationships that are rooted in respect, acknowledgment, and understanding. This form of communication fosters happier relationships, discourages anger and resentment, encourages peaceful resolutions to perceived difficulties, and leads to an increased sense of overall well being.

The foundation of mindful communication is based upon the idea that self expression of feelings, opinions, and differences can be shared with patient acceptance toward the self and the other without anger, judgment, or violence. Two ways that one can practice mindful compassionate communication is the following. The first is expression that is truthful this means talking without blaming and disclosing honestly what you are feeling without any judgment. The second is listening with empathy and compassion which means simply staying present in the moment and paying full attention without judgment to the full expression of what is on the mind.

This type of communication is meant to help in the development of  true understanding that encourages  expression that is focused and intentional, discourages defensive patterns, and facilitates honest exchange of information. This form of communication promotes healing, growth, freedom, and  honesty which leads to positive resolutions without guilt or other negative mindsets.
