Relationships are never easy.  They take a lot of hard work and patience to make them successful.  Unfortunately, sometimes people fall into patterns that force them to keep reliving the same miserable experiences.  Whether the people that they choose to date all have the same issues and problems, or their marriage keeps reliving the same fights over and over, it leaves them feeling lost and hopeless.  They begin to feel like they don’t deserve happiness when that is the farthest thing from the truth.  The simple solution to these destructive relationships and habits is to break the ugly cycle with the help of a relationship coach.

A relationship coach is a professional counselor that is trained to help individuals and couples achieve their relationship goals.  They view the relationships from an outside perspective and help identify where the patterns are originating.  Once the patterns are classified, they begin paving the way for successful relationships.  It sounds rather simple, but it can take some time to get things straightened out.  It takes patience, dedication, and an open mind to be successful in changing the dynamics of your relationships.

To begin, a relationship coach will assess your own actions and reactions in regards to different situations within your relationships.  They will offer constructive feedback about different ways to handle situations.  It will help open your mind to a new way of thinking about relationships, and more importantly, your role in them.  They will also help you identify your strengths and build your self esteem.  Once you realize what you are already good at, you can focus on using those tools to create harmony in your life.  Like all good teachers, your relationship coach will not simply hand you the answers.  Your coach will help you to find the answers you seek within yourself.  Only by finding the answers yourself can you truly understand them, allowing you to apply them to your life.

A relationship coach will also help you to become more insightful in dealing with people.  They will show you how to survey a situation objectively.  This allows you to logically determine what you need to do, rather than relying on being emotionally impulsive.  It’s impossible to completely remove emotions from situations you find yourself pondering.  Truthfully, you wouldn’t want to anyways.  Instead, you learn how to stop immediately reacting.  You take the time to think things through.  You learn to ask yourself things like:

  • What caused this situation?
  • How does it make me feel?
  • How do I want it to make me feel?
  • What can I do to change it?

Another incredible side to relationship coaching is the relaxation techniques that are taught.  Stress can have such a negative effect on the body and the mind.  Not only does it facilitate anxiety and depression, but it also causes a myriad of health issues with the body.  Heart disease, neurological disorders, and skin conditions are only a few of the ailments that are exacerbated by stress.  Because it fogs your mental capacities, it can also be so difficult to clearly see a situation when you are under high amounts of stress.  Being able to relax will calm your mind, as well as you body.  Some of the relaxation processes used are guided imagery, positive visualization, and meditation.

Meditation is a highly underrated form of therapy.  It offers a level of mental clarity that is not often achieved in everyday life.  It reduces stress, regulates blood pressure, and helps prevent many chronic illnesses.  Once your relationship coach teaches you about meditation, they will likely walk you through a few sessions of guided meditation.  This means you will be in a state of relaxation while you are listening to their verbal clues.  After you have practiced this, you can move on to meditating by yourself.  The really great part of meditating is you can do it anywhere.  For a full meditative session

The greatest part of relationship coaching is that it benefits literally every aspect of your life.  If you are married or in current relationship that is struggling, it can help you work through those issues and come to some sort of resolution.  The resolution may be that you get past the problems holding you up and move on happily.  It may also be the realization that the relationship cannot be fixed and it’s time to move on.  Either way, the confusion is erased and you can make positive progress in your life.  If you are single, it can also help you chose the right partner.  When you keep dating the same kind of person over and over, you will ultimately have the same results.  Relationship coaching will allow you to be more selective about the qualities you need in a mate.  In addition to your romantic relationships, it will also enhance your relationships with your parents, children, coworkers, and everyone else you come in contact with. It gives you the communication skills you need to successfully interact with everyone in your life.on your own, you may take 30 to 60 minutes.  However, if you are at work and you begin to feel overwhelmed, you can take 5 minutes out of your day to refocus yourself with a brief meditation.

The most important thing it accomplishes is the way it makes you feel about yourself.  Relationship coaching lets you see how amazing you are and it helps you to appreciate yourself.  You are important and your feelings matter.  You should never discount yourself or your happiness.  Your relationship coach will also be the leader of your support team, encouraging you to keep pressing forward.  Sometimes change can be daunting and make you feel like you want to quit.  However, you never know how close you are to achieving your goals.  Your coach will remind you of your goals and encourage you to do your exercises when you begin to feel overwhelmed.  Just remember: this change is a journey, not a destination.  Your relationship coach will be by your side on your journey and help you achieve successful relationships.
